Gandhi’s Last Stand.

Rashtripitha

We’ve found a rare image of Gandhi’s last stand – his  final moments (before or after ?) Nathuram Godse assasinated him.

A descisive moment missed even by Henri Cartier-Bresson who was in New Delhi and was supposed to take pictures of Gandhi, that very same day.

Gandhis Last Days at Birla House

Gandhi's Last Days at Birla House

Take a look at Bresson’s photoessay on Slate

This picture by an unknown photojournalist (any ideas who?) was published by the looks of it in a Marathi daily and is haunting to say the least.

Notice the gun in Godse’s right hand – a Beretta M 1934

[UPDATE]
Transpation of Marathi Marathi, thanks Calamur

“This somewhat blurred photograph had been pictured about 37 years ago, at the moment when Nathuram Godse shot the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. This picture had appeared in one of the English Daily’s at that time. Jabbar Khan, owner of Nobel Tailors on Dadisheth Road near Girgaum Chowpatty, Mumbai had framed this photo in his shop as a reminiscence of the tragic moment. Our representative Ghanshyam Bhadekar was able to acquire this photo after lot of persuasions with Mr. Jabbar Khan. Aged 70, Jabbar Khan has been a famous tailor of his time. Former Governor Prakash, Sadiq Ali, Abdul Latif, Kondamadhav Reddy as well as Former Chief Minister Antulay have awarded Khan for his exemplary work.”

Update2

The picture could very well be a still from this strange movie (as Nandini, Calamur,JR and Fred point out) called “9 Hours to Rama” made by 20th Century Fox. But still we see the actual scene from the movie we can’t be sure. So to keep this conspiracy going – if anybody goes have a copy of this obscure film please do let us know.

We’ll leave you with a Bresson picture of Nehru.

This would have been an excellent April 1 post but since the date doesn’t entirely match, could you please clarify why you think this is bona fide? Not only does Mr. Godse look more like a dude from a Hollywood Western rather than what the real N. Godse looked like, this shot doesn’t have the two women consorts Gandhi had. Please, read up just a little before posting things like this.

This photo is so obviously a hoax. The man with the gun is a foreigner who looks like Christian Slater. Godse was short and dark, as a google search will reveal.

This is probably a scene from a 1963 movie. The name of the movie was “Nine hours to Rama” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Hours_to_Rama. You can google the lead actor and see that he does look like the dude in the picture.

Reader Nandini, your suspiciions have been confirmed ! I did a bit of searching after your comment jogged my memory of a Hollywood film I saw as a child, called ‘Nine Hours to Rama’ starring Horst Bucholz as Godse. I found a clip and it’s clearly a still image from that flick that some fan clipped from a newspaper and saved….and which unfortunately wound up here.

Does anyone know who is the person facing the camera in the last picture (“Bresson picture of Nehru)? Looks like Devdas Gandhi to me. Anyone?

And that was the end of nice little family story told by progeny of Jabbar Khan, owner of Nobel Tailors on Dadisheth Road near Girgaum Chowpatty, Mumbai.
If the picture makes its way to India TV, they will really make it talk. A really haunting episode awaits.
