The 6° Project

The 6° Project : The First BLOWUP Fellowship

We are Tired of themes, so we came up with 6° Project  – based on the idea that anything can be connected to each other. We are going to use it as a conceptual springboard, each fellow has to not only come up with a new body of work but also do that collaboratively—all within 3 weeks! Experimental in nature it gives these fellows the chance to play and be free.

The result of this exercise will be up for all to see on 2nd February at the Experimental Arts Gallery at IHC. Stay updated through the blogs on how each one of them is progressing — here or on the unbox tumblr

BlowUp is a partner at UnBox Festival 2012 and is curating:

Where most good things get printed [Delhi]

[We are back !!! – after successfully hosting their street-style events in Bangalore, Paris, Delhi and Mumbai, the group will hold BLOWUP Angkor: A Photographic Intervention on the Streets of Siem Reap.

This is part of are on-going blog coverage on how we bring photography to the streets and the people [#BLOWUPangkor]. BLOWUP Angkor is an open and free street exhibition plastered along the public walls of the city – in Siem Reap Starting November 23rd ]

Like always we leave things to the last moment. My last 12 hours in Delhi and I’ve taken on the job printing some 400 photographs.  Multiple bodies of work from over 20 photographers two participating collectives LUCEO and MJR !!

So I head to Nehru Place.

Nehru Place for the uninitiated is a Computer bazaar and home of probably the cheapest printing this side of Asia, at 15cents (Rs 7) per A3 print it seems unbeatable. A ominous collection of soviet era modernist skyscrapers clustered around over crowded central plazas. Explosions of brand names, a cacophony of vendors, waves of young men in fashionable shirts, and ancient diesel generators that roar to life every time the power goes down.

Printing done, I get a call and I have 5 minutes to pack and we head to the hospital.

Just in time to see Tara, kaushik and eli’s 6 hour old daughter Tara – then rush to airport.

Next Stop Siem Reap

brightened the pine woods

In the woods
Bettel, Connecticut

BY half-past 5 on a morning in early October, the sun rising over Blackwater Pond had already brightened the pine woods. I stood in a wide natural path, carpeted with brown-red needles, that rises up the forested dune from the southwest side of the pond.

In the woods

I’d seen
their hoofprints in the deep
needles and knew
they ended the long night

under the pines, walking
like two mute
and beautiful women toward
the deeper woods, so I

got up in the dark and
went there. They came
slowly down the hill
and looked at me sitting under

the blue trees, shyly
they stepped
closer and stared
from under their thick lashes …

This is not a poem about a dream,
though it could be. …
